New Home Construction
Well, winter is here one day, spring is here the next, then back to winter again. The good part is that Spring IS just around the corner. Will it be a wet spring? A cold spring? Warm, hot, snowy, cloudy...we do not know and cannot control it.
With Spring also comes the beginning of another new home construction season. Building homes and businesses in this part of the country does come to a halt during the winter, unless the foundations are laid in the fall.
Planning is key. Are you planning to move? If so, have you considered building a new home in a new location? Now is the time to be planning and answering many questions when it comes to new home construction. Which neighborhood? Drive through several neighborhoods (old & new) to find one that you like.
The neighborhood will also provide the style and type of home that can or should be built. Again find one that you like. Indianola offers many different options.
What is your purchasing power? Do you know how much you can afford to borrow when buying or building a home? If you don't, contact a loan officer who can provide you with the estimates you need to begin your planning.
Finally, what is your time line? It normally takes six to eight months from start to finish of new home construction. Now is the time to be searching for the land, checking your purchasing power and deciding on a floor plan. Keep in mind the floor plan you want will most likely dictate the type of lot that you need. For instance, if you really want a walk out basement that can be finished into a family room, you will need to find a lot that slopes and accommodates a walk out.
