Over the past four+ years the Indianola Development Association has targeted entrepreneurial "organic gardening" as an effort to grow our business community by creating new businesses.
The basic concept is to bring those individuals, who have an idea, together with others who have services, working together to take the idea to the next level of business planning and formation. Entrepreneurial organic gardening is like farming. A farmer plants a seed (idea) in the ground, waters and nurtures it, then removes obstacles that limit growth, until it has grown to a stage with fruit or grain ready for harvest.
The effort has evolved into a system that has been called EMERGE. Simpson College has used the concept to create a program called EMERGE@Simpson. Simpson students join together to form teams which formulate product ideas, then take them to the next level by finding the resources necessary to create a business and marketing plan for that product idea. Several ideas have already been implemented, creating income for the students.
Now we hear about YOUEconomy. YOUEconomy, a new term for today's economy, focuses on the entrepreneurial spirit in everyone and how individuals can take control of their careers and life creating a new "way" to work. Entrepreneurs are finding ways to eliminate the 9-to-5 job by creating their own income sources in new, creative ways.
I've also been involved with a company called Nerium which fits the YOUEconomy paradigm. Nerium has developed a marketing system that provides residual income for its 'brand partners' while allowing them to help others feel better about themselves. Helping others is what drew me to the company and its products.
The change in how people work, where the income comes from, and how they live is different than the perceptions of the past. Do your own research about the YOUEconomy to see how it might help increase your income, while at the same time providing you and your family with a better way of life.
If you would like to learn more about EMERGE@Simpson take time to visit campus on Saturday November 19th. Start Up Storm is an event that will focus on entrepreneurial growth in a community, ending with a "pitch" contest where the student teams will pitch their ideas to see which one has the best chance for success.
