Iowa Energy and PolioPlus

What do the Iowa Energy and PolioPlus have to do with each other?

To start, the Iowa Energy is a basketball team. An NBA D-League team based in Des Moines, Iowa playing their home games at the Wells Fargo Arena.

? Since 1986, Rotary members around the world, have helped immunize more than 2.5 billion children against polio in 122 countries.  The cost?  On average it cost $0.60 to protect a child from this life crippling disease.

After 30 years, Rotary has helped reduce the number of cases around the world from 350,000 annually, to 400 in 2014, to 32 through October in 2016.

Back to what do the Iowa Energy and PolioPlus have to do with each other.  The 9th Annual Rotary Polio-Plus Night will be held by the Iowa Energy on Saturday 28th, 2017.

Tickets for the event can be purchased from any Rotary member in the metro area for $16 each.  Of that $16, the Iowa Energy donates $8 to PolioPlus.

This year, the Iowa Energy are organizing a BBQ Pork cook-off competition among local Rotary Clubs.  Each participating club will provide and cook 60# of pork.  People who attend the basketball game will sample and vote for the best tasting BBQ Pork through free-will donations.  All donations will be given to PolioPlus.
